In order to meet the challenges of climate change, we have to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), while targeting the 2030 UN Agenda.
India signed the declaration on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, comprising of seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the United Nations in Sept 2015.
If India with 1.4 billion people succeeds in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, it can change the face of the world.
Besides the government, NGOs and even groups from disadvantaged neighborhoods are organising their communities using the SDG’s as a framework.
The BBC-SOS community must pledge a new vision 2030 statement to align with these goals and volunteer membership in the global registry.
The Partnership for SDG’s platform is voluntary and we can help to drive the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while targeting a carbon neutral environment.
We can adapt as many SDG’s as possible while transforming ourselves and our neighborhood into a caring, giving, nature friendly and socially responsible community.
Challenges
Our community lies in a rain shadow zone.
The water table has depleted due to over exploitation.
The surrounding villages are faced with a lack of employment, due to a long standing drought and unsustainable agriculture, especially for the small and marginal farmer.
Traditional agricultural practices are no longer viable due to lack of water and high cost of inputs.
The area is crying out for new innovative and sustainable practices.
There are very few job opportunities, and industry is sparse .
Education is prevalent as it is across India, but skills are poorly matched to existing job requirements.
Proposed Solutions
Target net zero emissions and achieve a carbon neutral status.
We propose to join hands with energetic NGO's, administrators, LSG's and any passionate change maker to help alter the face of the economy and landscape.
Our sponsored educational institution will strive to strengthen STEAM concepts, while turning out future ready youngsters with desirable soft and hard skills for the coming decades.
We will attempt to transform the terrain by innovative perma-culture techniques, fostering sustainable and organic farming practices, social and agro forestry for all round rural development.
Retrain architects and local builders in green building technologies and use of local and low energy products.
Target 100% Off Grid renewable energy with surplus generation to surrounding hinterland.
Explore new age green energy options.
Target 100% waste water recycling, comprehensive water harvesting, effective ground water recharging, with overall water conservation techniques to achieve net zero wastage.
Let's create a transformative community to tackle
the biggest crisis on the planet
'Climate Change'
'Climate change' is our biggest and deadliest problem
'Climate change' is a graver crisis than any humanity has ever known.
India will be one of the worst hit countries to suffer the consequences of climate change.
We have to do the hardest thing humanity has ever done.
